Consumer Reports: "Lease, Don't Buy"

Deciding whether to purchase a Digital Video Recorder or lease one can be a tough decision. Consumer Reports looked at the DVRs that are offered by various Cable and Satellite providers, and they decided that for the average cost of about $10 a month, subscribers are better off leasing as opposed to buying a DVR. It all depends on how high you set your sights, really. In the UK, you can buy a very serviceable DVR for £100 or so, so the payback time for buying would be of the order of a year, which makes buying the more attractive option - just, I’d say.
