The Pioneer DVR640HS DVD Recorder is an impressive all-in-one DVD Player/Recorder. The DVR640HS includes a large 160GB Hard Drive to store TV Shows, Sporting Events or Movies, then record to multiple DVD formats: DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW and DVD-/+R DL (Dual Layer) for up to 10 hours of material on one disc. Hard Drive recording includes the Chase Play feature, Chase Play lets you watch, stop, or pause a show - while you're recording it, like a traditional DVR. The Pioneer DVR640HS DVD Recorder also works as a great playback machine for just about every disc format, including DivX DVDs and MP3 Audio CDs. A good deal at under $400 for a VCR replacement with lots of recording capacity.

The Panasonic is a good product, but I’m yet to be convinced that the internal software is that much more stable than that in the much cheaper lesser-brand products….
