USB TV and Video Capture Device

From Sal Prince, for About.com

Definition: A USB TV and Video Capture Device is a device that is capable of transferring an audio and video signal from an electronic device such as a VCR, Television or DVD Player to a Computer. The USB TV and Video Capture Device inputs the video signal into the device by either Composite, S-Video or RF inputs, and audio by Stereo RCA inputs or RF input. A TV-only USB Capture Device will input a cable TV or Satellite signal by RF input, but Composite cables can be used to input a TV signal as well on USB TV and Video Capture Devices that have Composite A/V inputs. The signal from the USB TV and Video Capture Device is output to the computer by a USB 2.0 cable at 400mbps plugged into a USB 2.0 port on the Computer.

Software bundled wth the USB TV and Video Capture Device provides the interface for capturing the TV or Video signal and stores it on the Computer's hard drive.
