Guide Review - Roxio BackOnTrack 3 Suite - Backup Software
It's a terrible feeling to lose all your data, photos, music or video files to a system crash. Hardware and software failures are a part of computing today, and a good backup utility is essential to keeping your precious data protected. That's where Roxio's BackOnTrack Suite comes in.
What I Liked About BackOnTrack
BackOnTrack offers three utilities in one package with an easy to use interface and helpful descriptions. Backup Data, Video, Photos, Music, etc. to CD, DVD, Blu-ray Disc or to a different Hard Drive. Disaster Recovery allows you to make an exact copy of your Hard Drive, with the ability to restore the drive image to a different Hard Drive if yours crashes. Instant Restore can restore your system state after installing new software or hardware that makes your system crash or makes it unstable. The interface will be familiar to Roxio users, but is simple enough for anyone to quickly learn, with descriptions of every choice displayed. A well thought out product essential for backing up important data, and reasonably priced.
What I Didn't Like About BackOnTrack
The only fault I could find with BackOnTrack was the way Instant Restore works. I assumed it would restore deleted files after restoring the state, but it doesn't seem to work that way. I created a text file on my test PC, and then created a restore point. I then deleted the text file. After restoring, the text file was not restored. I'm assuming instant restore will restore the system state, but does not restore deleted files. Individual files still need to be backed up in order to copy them back to the Hard Drive if there is a system crash.
