DirecTV offers Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) that include the TiVo menus and Electronic Programming Guide (EPG). New customers can purchase one of these boxes for $49 (after $100 mail in rebate) and get all the functions and features of a TiVo Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from DirecTV.
Automatically record every episode of your favorite shows, even if they change days or times. Pause live TV, rewind, watch in slow-motion and create instant replays. Record two shows at the same time, even while you watch another recorded show. Fast-forward, pause and rewind your recorded shows. Automatically record shows that match your interests, such as favorite actors, sports teams or genres. Digitally record up to 70 hours of TV programming. These DVRs double as the satellites receiver as well as a digital video recorder.
After the initial $49 purchase, you pay just $4.99/month after that or if you subscribe to the Total Choice Premier Package it's free. Current DirecTV subscribers can upgrade to a DVR receiver for $99.
There is also a DirecTV High Definition DVR that currently costs $999. This is a very high-end DVR that allows users to record High Definition programming to a huge 250GB Hard Drive. It includes the new HDMI audio/video interface for connecting to a comparably equipped HDTV. If you must have the latest and greatest in HD technology, this is the DVR for you.
DirecTV with TiVo is a good DVR for consumers who are thinking about switching to satellite and want DVR functionality or for current subscribers looking to upgrade. I advise you to check out Dish Network as well before deciding on a satellite DVR.
